Q: Why did you create MS Views & News?
A: I founded MS Views & News in 2008 to provide information and resources to all affected by MS, including people living with disease, caregivers, and other health care workers. For me, health equity is defined as everyone having a fair opportunity to be as healthy as possible—regardless of age, gender, religion, race, or other socioeconomic factors.
Q: What are the biggest challenges to achieving health equity for patients with MS?
A: To help address the huge challenges of medication costs, disease management, and access to quality MS-specific health care across the US, MS Views & News designed the “Compass to MS Care” series to reach rural and underserved communities. The series offers MS updates, avenues of access, and increased empowerment to those impacted by MS, ultimately helping them to make informed decisions and have better access to care.
MS Views & News also provides support for navigating insurance and authorization processes, and facilitates educational programs including:
- Disease-modifying therapies
- Insurance authorization
- Step therapy
Q: Why do you strive for health equity for all patients?
A: As a person living with MS, I am passionate about equality in health care. While I often feel emotional when I witness the lack of information, knowledge, and resources available to people in underserved communities, these health care disparities are what drive me. In my mind, “If we can make even a 50% change, it would be fabulous.”
